LIPOSUCTION

It’s not about weight. It’s about shape.

“Liposuction is not a weight loss tool. It’s about proportion, contour, and sculpting your natural potential.”

- Dr. Parag Mahadik

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that removes unwanted fat using a thin, hollow instrument called a cannula. The cannula is gently inserted beneath the skin and connected to a suction device, allowing our commended Mumbai Cosmetic surgeon specialist, Dr Parag Mahadik to sculpt and refine your contours with precision.

Tumescent liposuction is a common method where a sterile solution is injected to numb the area, reduce bleeding, and ease fat removal. Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL) uses a vibrating cannula for faster, smoother, and more precise fat removal, especially in delicate areas. Ultrasound or laser-assisted liposuction liquefies fat before removal but carries higher risks like burns and skin damage.

Dr. Parag Mahadik favors PAL at Esmee Clinic for its precision, efficiency, and lower risks. It provides smoother, natural results whether treating small areas like the arms or larger zones like the abdomen, offering controlled contouring and a more refined appearance.

BENEFITS OF A LIPOSUCTION

Achieve a Natural-Looking Contour and a Leaner Physique Where It Matters Most.

  • Reshapes Stubborn Fat Deposits (Abdomen, Flanks, Thighs, Chin, Arms, etc.)
  • Enhances Your Silhouette and Clothing Fit
  • Minimal Scarring — Small, Strategically Placed Incisions
  • Can Be Combined with Other Procedures Like Tummy Tuck or Facelift
  • Permanent Fat Removal (With Stable Weight Post-Surgery)
  • Boosts Confidence and Body Image

Liposuction is about creating harmony between your body and your self-image. It’s not about perfection—it’s about helping you feel comfortable, confident, and proud of the reflection you see in the mirror every day.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR LIPOSUCTION?

You may be a good candidate for a liposuction if:
1. You want to restore your best and beautiful self - and want your body to reflect that
2. You’re close to your ideal weight but have stubborn fat deposits
3. You have good skin elasticity (younger skin tends to shrink better post-fat removal)
4. You’re healthy and don’t smoke
5. You have realistic expectations (liposuction is sculpting, not a weight loss tool)
6. You’re looking for permanent, precise fat reduction

This procedure works beautifully for healthy individuals who want to refine their body—not completely redefine it. If you’re already close to your goal weight but need help smoothing out stubborn areas, liposuction can give you that extra boost of confidence and balance.

YOUR LIPOSUCTION PROCEDURE

Liposuction is typically performed as a day surgery, meaning you’ll go home the same day. It’s done under general anesthesia or tumescent anesthesia, ensuring your comfort throughout the procedure. The duration depends on how many areas are being treated—usually anywhere from 1 to 3 hours.

Before the procedure, Dr. Parag Mahadik marks the treatment areas to ensure symmetry and accuracy for balanced results. Tiny incisions, just 3–5 mm, are made in discreet locations to minimize visible scarring. A special tumescent fluid is injected into the targeted areas to numb the region, reduce bleeding, and loosen fat cells for easier removal. Using a cannula, the unwanted fat is gently suctioned out through a vacuum system, allowing for meticulous sculpting rather than simple removal. Smaller cannulas are then used for fine-tuned sculpting, ensuring smooth, natural transitions for balanced results.

Once the procedure is complete, the tiny incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures, simplifying recovery with no need for suture removal. Compression garments are applied immediately to support your new contours, reduce swelling, and promote healing. Popular areas treated include the abdomen, waist, hips, thighs, arms, chin, neck, and back, including stubborn spots like love handles and bra rolls.

Dr. Parag Mahadik offers customizable tummy tuck options in Mumbai, including full, mini, or extended procedures based on your needs. Liposuction is often combined to refine stubborn fat areas like the flanks, hips, or thighs, enhancing body contour and balance. For those seeking additional rejuvenation, optional vaginal aesthetic surgery can address post-childbirth changes, restoring comfort, function, and confidence.

RECOVERY AND RISKS OF LIPOSUCTION

Recovery timeline:

  • Day 0: You’ll go home the same day with a compression garment applied to support your new contours and reduce swelling.
  • Week 1: You may experience moderate pain and swelling, but this is normal and manageable with oral painkillers. Many patients feel ready to return to desk work by the end of the first week—just take it easy and listen to your body.
  • Week 2: Light activities like walking are encouraged to promote circulation and healing. Walking also helps reduce the risk of blood clots, so don’t skip those gentle strolls!
  • Week 4: Most of the swelling will have subsided, and you can ease back into the gym—but stick to light weights for now. Your body is still healing, so avoid overdoing it.
  • 3–6 Months: This is when the final results really shine. The remaining swelling fades, your skin tightens further, and your new, sculpted shape becomes fully visible. Patience pays off here—you’ll love the transformation.

Post-Op Care Tips:

  • Compression Garments Worn Full Time for 4 Weeks
  • Oral Painkillers for Discomfort
  • Hydration and Walking Encouraged/li>

Potential side effects:

  • Bruising or Temporary Numbness
  • Seroma (Fluid Accumulation)
  • Contour Irregularities (Rare with an Experienced Surgeon)
  • Scarring (Minimal and Hidden)
  • Fat Embolism or Bleeding (Extremely Rare)

YOUR LIPOSUCTION RESULTS

While the number on the scale may not change drastically, the transformation in your body’s shape can be remarkable. Liposuction removes stubborn fat deposits, creating smooth, refined contours that enhance your natural figure. The result is a sleeker, more balanced silhouette that allows your clothes to fit and flatter in new, exciting ways. Whether it’s slipping into your favorite jeans or feeling confident in a fitted dress, the physical changes often lead to a greater sense of ease and confidence in your daily life.

Beyond the visible changes, liposuction offers lasting impact by permanently removing fat cells from targeted areas. This level of precision can’t be achieved through diet alone, and as long as you maintain a stable weight, the results are long-term. Many people find that the emotional boost is just as meaningful as the physical transformation—feeling more in tune with their bodies and more comfortable in their own skin. It’s not just about how you look, but how you feel moving forward.

Frequently Asked Questions & Myths

Find answers to the most common questions about our services and features.

Not true. Liposuction is all about contouring, not shedding pounds. Most patients lose 2–5 kg at most—the real goal is to reshape and refine your silhouette, not move the needle on the scale.
Unfortunately, liposuction only removes fat. Cellulite is caused by fibrous bands beneath the skin, not just fat, so other treatments are needed to address it.
CoolSculpting and similar devices might help in mild cases, but the results are unpredictable. Liposuction physically removes fat—it’s still the gold standard for precise, lasting results.
Initial swelling takes weeks to subside, and the final result typically appears around the 3–6 month mark. Patience is key, but the wait is worth it.
With modern techniques and experienced surgeons like our renowned Mumbai Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Parag Mahadik, liposuction is extremely safe. Serious risks are incredibly rare.
Liposuction is a very traumatic procedure for the tissues. Major swelling takes 2-3 months to settle while the minor swelling takes a further 3-6 months.
I am afraid this isn’t a comparison at all. Coolsculpting, ultrasound cavitation and many other energy-based, non invasive equipment have a limited effect in select patients only. There is more marketing devoted to them than actual slimming. Liposuction is the most predictable and cost effective way for excess fat removal.
Yes it is normal till about 4-6 months. Healing happens with protein. It gets stiff and forms hard clumps as it heals. The clumps of protein and blood slowly disintegrate over 6 months.
Liposuction is primarily a sculpting procedure rather than a weight reducing one. You would still lose some weight (approx. 2 pounds / 1000cc fat removed). You can safely remove 5-7 pounds of fat, which might not reflect very well on the scale.
Despite everything you read and hear, the painful cold truth, that would save you a lot of money and recurrent disappointment, is that there are currently NO methods/techniques /procedures and NO treatments whose RESULTS ARE CLOSE OR MUCH LESS EQUIVALENT to those of LIPOSUCTION.
