ARM LIFT

Confidence in every gesture.

“Arm lifts empower patients to move and dress freely again — a small change that significantly restores self-assurance.”

- Dr. Parag Mahadik

What is a Arm Lift?

Brachioplasty, or an arm lift, is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat from the upper arms while tightening the remaining tissue for a smoother, more toned appearance. It’s a great option for those who struggle with sagging skin that doesn’t respond to diet or exercise. To achieve the best results, brachioplasty is often combined with liposuction. This powerful duo targets stubborn fat in areas that are hard to reach with surgery alone, giving your arms a sleeker, more refined shape.

Which type of Arm Lift Is Right for You?
Full Arm Lift: If you have significant skin sagging, a full arm lift may be the best option. The scar runs from the armpit down to the elbow, but it’s carefully placed to blend as discreetly as possible. This approach is ideal for addressing more pronounced skin laxity.
Mini Arm Lift:For patients with minimal excess skin, a mini arm lift offers a less invasive option. The scar is limited to the armpit area, making it easier to conceal. It’s perfect for those who need just a little tightening without extensive surgery.
Liposuction Alone: Younger patients with good skin elasticity and only moderate fat may benefit from liposuction alone. This option avoids larger incisions while still providing noticeable contouring, especially for those whose skin naturally “snaps back” after fat removal

BENEFITS OF A ARM LIFT

Goal: Regain toned arms that look as strong and confident as you feel.

  • Removes Loose, Sagging “Bat Wing” Skin: Say goodbye to the frustration of loose, hanging skin that no amount of exercise can fix. An arm lift smooths out your arms for a sleeker, more polished look.
  • Refines and Contours the Upper Arm Shape: This procedure isn’t just about removing excess—it’s about sculpting your arms to create a firmer, more defined silhouette that complements your natural body shape.
  • Helps Clothes Fit Better — No More Hiding in Long Sleeves: Imagine slipping into sleeveless tops or dresses without feeling self-conscious. An arm lift helps your clothes fit better, so you can confidently show off your arms.
  • Minimal, Well-Placed Scars Hidden Along the Inner Arm: While scars are a part of the process, they’re carefully placed along the inner arm to be as discreet as possible. Over time, they fade significantly and become much less noticeable.
  • Combines Beautifully with Liposuction for Smooth Results: Adding liposuction to your arm lift can target stubborn fat pockets, giving your arms an even smoother, more contoured appearance.
  • Boosts Body Image and Comfort in Your Skin: Beyond the physical changes, many patients describe feeling a renewed sense of pride and confidence.

4. You’ve Lost Significant Weight or Have Age-Related Skin Laxity: Major weight loss or the natural ageing process can leave behind sagging skin. An arm lift is designed to address these concerns and give you back your confidence.

5. You Are at a Stable Weight and in Good General Health: Being at a stable weight ensures your results last longer, while good overall health helps ensure a smoother recovery.
6. You Don’t Smoke (or Are Willing to Stop Before and After Surgery): Smoking can interfere with healing, so it’s important to avoid it before and after surgery to achieve the best possible outcome.
7. You Have Realistic Expectations and Are Okay with a Discreet Scar: While the scar is minimal and well-placed, it’s important to understand that it will be part of your transformation. However, Dr. Mahadik understands that scars do look ugly, especially on recently curated areas, and so he ensures it’s as discreet as possible.

This procedure is ideal for people who are tired of hiding their arms and want to feel better—not just look better—in their own skin. If this sounds like you, an arm lift could be the perfect solution to help you feel proud of your arms again.

YOUR ARM LIFT PROCEDURE

An arm lift is typically performed as a day surgery under general anaesthesia, so you’ll be comfortable throughout the process. For minor cases, it can even be done under local anaesthesia—Dr. Mahadik, our skilled Mumbai Cosmetic surgeon will help determine what’s best for you.

Here’s How It Works:
1. Dr. Mahadik Will Mark the Areas of Skin and Fat to Be Removed:Before the procedure begins, he carefully plans the areas to ensure your results look natural and balanced. Precision is key to achieving the best outcome.
2. Incisions Are Placed Along the Inside of the Arm or in the Armpit:The incisions are strategically placed where they’ll be least noticeable—either along the inner arm or hidden in the armpit. This ensures the scars blend discreetly into your natural contours.
3. Liposuction May Be Performed First to Reduce Volume and Contour:If there’s stubborn fat to address, liposuction is often used first to refine the shape of your arms before removing excess skin.

4. Excess Skin Is Carefully Removed and Remaining Skin Is Tightened:Dr. Mahadik meticulously removes the loose skin and tightens the remaining tissue to create a smoother, firmer appearance.
5. Incisions Are Closed with Dissolvable Sutures for Optimal Healing:You won’t need to worry about suture removal—the stitches dissolve on their own, making your recovery simpler and more comfortable.
6. A Compression Garment Is Applied to Reduce Swelling and Support Shape:After the procedure, a compression garment is fitted to support your new contours, reduce swelling, and promote healing. Think of it as your post-surgery sidekick!
7. Surgical Time and Setting:The procedure takes about 1.5 to 3 hours for both arms, depending on the extent of the work. Since it’s a day surgery, you’ll be discharged after 2–3 hours of observation, ready to begin your recovery at home.

RECOVERY AND SIDE EFFECTS OF ARM LIFT

Recovery Timeline:

  • Day 1–3: You might feel some mild discomfort, tightness, or bruising, but don’t worry—this is normal and can be managed with pain tablets. Rest is key during these early days.

  • Week 1: If you have a desk job, you can likely return to work by this point. Just avoid lifting anything heavier than 2–3 kg for now.

  • Week 2–3: Light activities like walking or gentle chores are encouraged to keep your circulation flowing and aid healing.

  • Week 4–6: You can gradually resume normal workouts and lifting. By now, most of the swelling will have subsided, and you’ll start to see your final results taking shape.

  • 3–6 Months: Your scars will continue to fade, and your arms will settle into their final, beautifully refined contour. Patience pays off here—you’ll love the transformation.

Post-Op Care Tips:

  • Compression Garments for 4–6 Weeks: These are essential for reducing swelling and supporting your new shape. Wear them as instructed for the best results.
  • Keep Dressings Dry; Shower After Day 5: To ensure proper healing, keep your dressings dry and wait until Day 5 to shower.
  • All Stitches Are Dissolvable: need to stress about suture removal—they’ll dissolve on their own, making your recovery easier.

Potential Risks:

While complications are rare, it’s important to be aware of the following:

  • Infection or Hematoma (Rare): These risks are minimized with proper surgical technique and aftercare.
  • Asymmetry or Uneven Contour: Here at Esmee, Dr. Parag Mahadik, Sydney’s aesthetic surgeon, takes great care to ensure symmetry, but slight differences can occur. Any concerns can be addressed during follow-ups.
  • Numbness Along the Incision Line (Usually Temporary): It’s common to feel some numbness as your nerves heal, but sensation usually returns over time
  • Hypertrophic or Keloid Scarring: scars are minimal and well-placed, some people are prone to raised scars. Dr. Parag Mahadik uses techniques to minimize this risk.
  • Seroma (Fluid Build-Up):Sometimes fluid can collect under the skin, but this is usually minor and resolves on its own or with simple treatment.
